Rev Jacob Memorial Christian College
During 1995, the community around the Health Center established by Dr Jacob Cherian expressed the need for an Arts and Science College, as their children had to travel about 30Kms to go to a college either in Palani or Dindigul. In addition, there were nearly 25 feeding schools in and around Oddanchatram. All the students coming out of Christian Matriculation Higher Secondary School, and Shanthinikethan Higher Secondary School, could not attend college as they remained poor.
All these factors were instrumental in motivating Rev Jacob Cherian to apply for an Arts and Science College, catering to students for a 3-year degree course under the Madurai Kamaraj University.
After initial teething problems, RJMCC was dedicated in 1987. Classes were held in the former Polytechnic College building at Ambilikkai. Despite the falling demand for Arts and Science Colleges in rural areas, the college functioned well under the efficient Management of the first Principal Dr Prema Michael. The dynamic leadership of the Principal helped the college to reach an acceptable level of eligibility by the Accreditation Committee of the UGC India. The retirement of Dr Prema in 2003, paved the way for Dr Mrs Mercy Gerald to take over as the Principal. She had been the Principal of the Meenakshi Govt. Arts and Science College, Madurai, prior to joining RJMCC.

Apart from developing student’s talents in sports, the College tried to mold their personality through workshops and seminars which were held frequently in the early days. Today, 28 years after its launch, RJMCC has added several feathers to its cap. It received NAAC accreditation in 2007, and received re-accreditation in 2022. The college has been granted 2(f) and 12(B) status by UGC. The college has over 400 students spread across 4 PG and 10 UG courses offered by the College. Several students have secured university ranks in Biochemistry and Library Science.
RJMCC is poised to move to its next phase of excellence, carrying on the Legacy left by the Founders, Padmabhushan Dr Jacon Cherian and Dr Mary Cherian. We welcome you to join us on this exciting journey !!
